Wheeling man charged with sexually abusing teenage girl
A 24-year-old Wheeling man was ordered held on $150,000 bail Friday on charges he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.
Pablo Medina-Ortiz was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison.
Prosecutors say Medina-Ortiz, then 21, met the girl days before her 14th birthday. Shortly after that, they began dating and began a sexual relationship, said Cook County assistant state's attorney David Mennie.
Their sexual relationship continued until January 2016, when the now 16-year-old girl told her high school social worker after an argument with Medina-Ortiz, Mennie said.
According to Mennie, Medina-Ortiz made admissions he and the girl "were trying to start a family."
Medina-Ortiz next appears in court April 28.
