'Hands Around the Courthouse' brings attention to child abuse

CASA Kane County held its 13th annual "Hands Around the Courthouse" ceremony Thursday at the historic Kane County Courthouse in Geneva.

April is national Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, and CASA's event brings awareness to child abuse and neglect in the county.

Kane County Chief Judge Susan Clancy Boles, State's Attorney Joe McMahon, and CASA Kane County Executive Director Gloria Bunce shared words and statistics with those in attendance, followed by a few moments of silence as people joined hands on the main floor as well as the second floor balcony.

About 20 CASA Kane County child advocate volunteers were then sworn in by 16th Judicial Circuit Court Judge William Parkhurst.
