Commercial building, medical offices OK'd in Algonquin

Four community development projects are moving forward in Algonquin, bringing to the area a new commercial building and additional medical services.

Trustees voted this week to approve plans and permits for the projects, three of which are on Randall Road and the other off East Algonquin Road. Officials previously voiced their intention to push for more economic growth along those corridors.

"Algonquin is pleased to have new businesses and development activity continuing to occur, which fits in with the village's goal to establish a vibrant commercial base throughout the community," Senior Planner Ben Mason said.

A building at 234 S. Randall Road, which formerly housed a Great Bank and a Charter One Bank, is expected to be demolished after sitting empty for several years, Mason said. In its place, developers intend to build a 14,960-square-foot commercial building with six to eight tenants, providing "renewed commercial activity" at the northwest corner of Stonegate and Randall roads, Mason said.

Leases for those spaces have not been signed yet, according to village documents, but developers intend to add a restaurant with some outdoor seating to one of the corner units of the building.

Plans to add on to the Advocate Sherman Immediate Care Center at 600 S. Randall Road were also approved this week.

The 4,022-square-foot addition to the northeast corner of the building will allow the medical center to house a large MRI machine - a first for the village, Mason said.

"There are currently no medical facilities in Algonquin that offer MRI services," he said. "This will fill a gap and provide a local option for village residents."

The approved plan includes other site improvements, such as landscaping and additional access roads to the office.

Additionally, village board OK'd special use permits for two medical offices that will fill vacant spaces, Mason said.

Rehab Care Group, a company that offers rehabilitation services, plans to open an outpatient therapy center at 212-216 Eastgate Court, according to village documents. The site, part of a multi-tenant building, will be directly in front of Eastgate Manor of Algonquin, a supportive living community for seniors, Mason said.

The second special use permit was granted to a dental office called Aspen Dental, which is planning to occupy space in a new two-unit commercial building expected to be constructed this year, Mason said. The 1450 S. Randall Road property is an outlot of Wal-Mart.
