Girls soccer: Grayslake North blanks Dundee-Crown

Freshman McKenna Brooks scored twice, and Grayslake North's girls soccer team shut out Dundee-Crown 4-0 in a Fox Valley Conference crossover on Thursday.

The Knights (3-1-1) got on the board when junior defender Morgan Lyon played a cross to Brooks, who headed the ball into the net for her first goal of the season. Junior Sydney Paez scored on a free kick from about 35 yards out to make the score 2-0 going into halftime.

Senior midfielder Corryn Smith played a through ball to sophomore Lauren Davis, who slotted the ball in for a 3-0 advantage. Brooks finished the scoring off another assist from Lyon.

"In the early moments of the game, Dundee-Crown came out and strung some passes together and showed some early signs of their desire to attack," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "After we got a couple touches on the ball, we started to get everyone on the same page both defensively as well as in the attack, and from there our confidence continued to grow. We started to play with more purpose and a lot more desire to get forward in the attack."

Grayslake North freshman keeper Emily Dunne mad 4 saves in earning the shutout.

Wauconda 1, Warren 1: Alliyah Parker scored the equalizer for Warren in the second half of the North Suburban crossover.

Lydia Sundberg had 2 saves and Skylar Reilly stopped five in net for Warren 5-1-1.

Abby McHugh scored in the 11th minute for Wauconda (3-0-2), while Bulldogs keeper Ally Magiera made 10 saves.

"We are so proud of our team tonight," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "We were preaching connectedness in preparation for this game, and we really played as a complete unit. Warren is obviously a really good team and put a ton of pressure on us."

Vernon Hills loses tonight 1-2 as they visited host Lake Zurich.

Lake Zurich 2, Vernon Hills 1: The host Bears built a 2-0 lead by halftime of the North Suburban crossover.

Samantha Hartman and Becca Kubin scored for Lake Zurich (3-1). Kubin also had an assist, as did Erin Neeson.

Maddie Farag scored for Vernon Hills.

Libertyville 7, Grant 1: The Wildcats did all of their scoring in the first half of the North Suburban crossover.

Annie Thompson and Mekenna Yoor each scored twice for Libertyville. Julia Neiweem, Maddie Olson and Natalie Jaroch also scored.

Libertyville (2-2) broke a two-game losing streak.

Meghan Murray scored off an assist from Brianna Barnes for Grant (0-4).

Stevenson 11, North Chicago 0: Daniella Adjunta scored 3 goals, and Brianna Van Zanten and Savannah Kruse each added a pair for the Patriots in the North Suburan crossover.

Stevenson also got goals from Jill Steinbrink, Hannah Lapeire, Aisling Grant, Mackenzie Connington and Jamie Granick.

Hannah Petrich (first half) and Zoey Friedman (second half) shared the shutout in goal.
