Bulls add Horace Grant to front office

The Chicago Bulls added to their lineup of former stars in the front office Wednesday by naming Horace Grant a special adviser to president and chief operating officer Michael Reinsdorf.

Grant, who played for the Bulls from 1987-94, joins Scottie Pippen and Toni Kukoc in this role. The former players appear to serve mostly as team ambassadors, but they are called on at times to talk to or work with current players.

Besides those three, two championship-era Bulls are on the coaching staff, Pete Myers and Randy Brown. John Paxson serves as vice president of basketball operations.

Grant left the Bulls on bad terms, signing with Orlando as a free agent in the summer of 1994. One of the few low moments of the 90s for the Bulls was watching Magic players hoist Grant in the air at the United Center after beating the Bulls in the second round of the 1995 playoffs.

The following season, the Bulls traded for Dennis Rodman and won three more championships, so the loss of Grant was no longer a painful memory. In the meantime, Grant became a thoughtful and mature veteran as his 17-year NBA career continued with Orlando, Seattle and the Los Angeles Lakers. He earned a fourth championship ring in 2001 with the Lakers.

"The Chicago Bulls have always had a special place in my heart and it means so much to be part of the family again," Grant said in a statement released by the team. "The team has given me memories that will last a lifetime and I am looking forward to creating even more in this new role."

Grant has served as an NBA Goodwill Ambassador, representing the league in 14 countries. He has two nephews playing in the NBA, Philadelphia's Jerami Grant and New York's Jerian Grant. Both are sons of Horace's twin brother Harvey.
