Construction worker had wife, four children
Editor's note: This story has been updated to correctly spell Vicente Santoyo.
The 47-year-old construction worker killed early Tuesday under the Jane Addams Tollway was married and the father of four, according to an obituary placed online by a Berwyn funeral home.
Vicente Santoyo also had six brothers and sisters, the obituary says. He was only nine days from his 48th birthday.
Through Linhart Funeral Home in Berwyn, the family declined to comment on their loss.
At his union local, however, Santoyo was remembered Tuesday as an experienced craftsman.
Santoyo was fairly new to Omega Demolition, of Elgin, a subcontractor on the I-90 job, but was a 25-year veteran of Laborers Local 225, said Tony Cantone, the union's business manager.
"He was renowned in the industry for what he does," Cantone said of the demolition laborer.
Santoyo's wake is scheduled for Sunday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be Monday at St. Anthony Church in Cicero, before Santoyo is buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
