Last-place Verona beats Bologna 1-0 for 1st away win
BOLOGNA, Italy (AP) - Last-place Hellas Verona beat Bologna 1-0 in Serie A on Monday for its first away victory of the season and only third win overall.
Brazilian defender Samir Santos scored with a header near the end of the first half on debut for Verona.
Verona moved six points from safety with seven rounds remaining in the Italian league.
Bologna has lost three straight matches and is winless for six but the team coached by Roberto Donadoni remains mid-table.
Verona coach Luigi Delneri left striker Luca Toni off the squad for the match and Samir stepped up by redirecting a corner from near the penalty spot in his first action since joining on loan from Granada.
Luca Rizzo had Bologna's best chance midway through the second half.
