Thanks for making Spruce Village in Palatine a reality

Thank you!

On March 7 the Palatine village council voted unanimously to approve our proposal for Spruce Village, a 44-unit permanent supportive housing apartment building for people living with mental illnesses and other disabilities, to be located near the corner of Rand and Hicks.

On behalf of the entire North/Northwest Suburban Task Force on Supportive Housing for Individuals with Mental Illness, and the people we serve, thank you.

Thank you to the many people who helped bring this much-needed project that much closer to realization. Thank you to:

• Members of the Village Council and Plan Commission for voting yes;

• The village staff for their hard work and enthusiastic support;

• UP Development, the Kenneth Young Center and the Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health for their dedication and hard work;

• The many Palatine church and civic groups who supported the project;

• The area NAMI chapters and their members who also supported the project; and

• The more than 1,500 Palatine residents who signed petitions urging the Village Council to approve supportive housing of this nature.

Worthwhile causes often take a long time, and Spruce Village has been no exception. As a result of the dedication and perseverance of everyone who participated (and if funding for the project comes through, as we think it will), soon 44 people with disabilities will each have a safe, affordable home of their own in our community.

Once again, thank you.

Hugh Brady and Ken Doruff

Co-presidents, North/Northwest Suburban Task Force
