Indianapolis police chief sworn in 3 months after taking job

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis now has a police chief who's certified as a law enforcement officer in the state of Indiana.

Mayor Joe Hogsett swore in Troy Riggs on Monday. After taking office on Jan. 1, Riggs had six months to obtain police certification in Indiana.

Riggs previously served for more than 20 years as a police officer and administrator in Louisville, Kentucky, and as police chief, and later assistant city manager, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He also formerly served as public safety director in Indianapolis for nearly three years.

Hogsett says Riggs brings to the job decades of law enforcement experience.
