Aurora cops probe report of attempted child abduction

Aurora police say they're investigating a report of an attempted child abduction at 8:10 a.m. Monday on the 1200 block of Marshall Boulevard on the city's near northeast side.

A 10-year-old girl told police she was outside an apartment building waiting for a ride to school when she was approached by a woman who grabbed and threatened her. When the girl started screaming, the woman ran east toward Farnsworth Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

The girl described the suspect as a white woman in her 30s, standing between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 110 and 130 pounds. The woman was wearing a black jacket with the hood up, the girl said, and had a multicolored scarf over her face. The girl said the woman also had moles on her forehead and face and a scar under her right eye.

Police said they checked the area and found nothing suspicious.

Anyone who may have information on the case is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500, Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000, or submit their tips through the department's "My PD" app.

Police said they are increasing patrols in the area.
