Girls water polo: Prospect gains share of MSL East lead

Prospect's girls water polo team tightened up the race in the Mid-Suburban East on Monday, topping previously unbeaten Hersey 5-3.

Gracie Dix and Connie Vuong each scored twice for the host Knights and teammate Colleen Doyle added 1 goal.

Prospect keeper Lauren Broz made 16 saves as the Knights (5-4, 4-1) gained a share of the MSL East lead alongside the Huskies.

Stephanie Surkin and Caleigh O'Neil had the goals for host Hersey (8-2, 4-1).

Barrington 18, Schaumburg 8: Barrington's girls water polo team jumped ahead 7-3 after one period en route to an 18-8 Mid-Suburban West triumph over Schaumburg on Monday.

Mia Latimer led the Fillies with 5 goals followed by Bella Rojas (4), Nicole Runtz (3), Heidi Pallan (3) and Alyssa Schmidts (3). Goalkeeper Ellie Connors made 7 saves for the winners.

Becca Kasner had 3 goals for Schaumburg followed by Hannah Pearson (2), Brianna Vasquez (2) and Jessica Bukielski.

Barrington (5-1, 4-1) is tied with Fremd for the West Division lead.

Fremd 13, Hoffman Estates 3: Karolina Urban (5 goals), Sarah Coombes (3) and Becca Rutkowski and Emily Kini (2 each) carried the scoring load as Fremd improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the MSL West.

Jenny Fermaintt (2) and Ann Cho (1) had the goals for the Hawks, who had 10 shots stopped by Fremd's Emma Jeronimus.

Palatine 5, Conant 3: The Pirates didn't allow a goal in the fourth quarter and got a pair of scores from senior Mathilde Mogensen in earning an MSL West road victory.

Hannah Lukas scored twice for Conant (8-3, 3-2), while Kristin Anderson, Kelsey Hank and Jasmina Mesic had single goals for the Pirates (5-6, 3-2).

Tess O'Brien was a force in goal for Palatine, stopping 11 shots and coming up with 10 steals. Conant's Cam Rosas denied 17 shots by the Pirates.
