Boys water polo: Wheeling tops BG in battle of MSL East unbeatens
Wheeling's boys water polo team picked up a key win at Buffalo Grove in its effort to repeat as Mid-Suburban East champs.
The Wildcats topped the Bison 16-8 on Monday, handing Buffalo Grove its first loss to a divisional foe.
Nate Reiff, Jacob Gorenyuk, Nick Konstantos and Kyle Noel were among the scorers for Wheeling (9-5, 4-0).
Buffalo Grove slipped to 7-4 and 4-1.
Conant 14, Palatine 6: The host Cougars got off to a quick start, leading 5-1 at one point in the first quarter, on their way to an MSL West victory.
Conant improved to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the West, while Palatine dropped to 4-8 and 2-3.
Barrington 11, Schaumburg 8: Mitch Gavars (4 goals), John Fischer (3) and Tom Derken (2) led the scoring effort for the host Broncos (11-2, 4-1), who are along in second place in the MSL West.
Matt Soltau (4 goals) and Tyler Gustafson (3) led the way for Schaumburg (3-10, 1-4).
Fremd 17, Hoffman Estates 2: The MSL West leaders protected their advantage in the division, staying unbeaten at 5-0 and improving to 7-2 overall.
Prospect 8, Hersey 1: The Knights evened their record in the MSL East at 2-2 and improved to 5-4 overall.
Rolling Meadows 10, Elk Grove 9: The Mustangs improved to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the East, while Elk Grove drops to 2-6 and 1-3.
