Kiwanis Club of Elgin provides milk to Crisis Center

Community Crisis Center Inc. received a $2,000 grant in March from the Kiwanis Club of Elgin that will cover the cost to purchase fresh milk and baby formula for the children and infants staying in its shelter program.

The Community Crisis Center for 40 years has been meeting the needs of individuals and families experiencing unimaginable crises and barriers related to poverty and domestic violence.

Children who come to the shelter are treated as distinct clients. Services include individual counseling, children's domestic violence support group, play groups, homework groups, games and crafts group, and a parenting group for shelter residents; and children's group counseling for walk-in clients. Each year, approximately 200 children spend 3,500 nights in the Shelter Program and another 200 children receive walk-in services.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin has partnered with the Crisis Center for years to improve the lives of our youngest clients.

"It does take a village to raise a child and we are so honored to have the Kiwanis Club of Elgin as a part of our village," said Gretchen Vapnar, Crisis Center executive director.

Community Crisis Center Inc. is a nonprofit organization funded in part by the federal, state and local government, United Way of Elgin, United Way of Central Kane County and other local organizations.
