21-year-old Bloomington man gets 32 years in beating death

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A 21-year-old Bloomington man has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for his role in the beating death of a homeless man in 2014.

Tory Washington pleaded guilty to murder in September. The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (http://bit.ly/1Uymbvj ) Washington told Judge Robert Freitag at his sentencing hearing Friday that he couldn't walk away from two others after they targeted 56-year-old Ronald Smith.

Twenty-year-old Anthony Davis-Dickson was previously sentenced to 35 years in prison and 19-year-old Willie Chambers was sentenced to 42 years.

According to testimony, the decision to attack Smith came after a day of skateboarding and the consumption of alcohol and pills by the three men.

Assistant State's Attorney Kristin Alferink asked for 35 years, the maximum allowed under Washington's plea agreement.
