Baseball: Kaneland gets first win of season
Kaneland 4, Myrtle Beach 3: At the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, the Knights (1-2) grabbed their first win of the season thanks to Will Ring's lone hit of the day, an RBI single to center in the top of the seventh that scored Jake Marczuk from second base. Joe Laudont (2-for-4, RBI, 2BB) also contribued to the Kaneland offense while Ryan David notched the win in relief.
CL South 11, Murphysboro 10: The Gators (5-0) scored 6 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a win in downstate Marion. Cam Geisser (2-for-4, 2 RBI) had the game-winning hit, which scored Griffin Bright (2-for-4, 2 RBI). Also contributing to the Crystal Lake South offense were Michael Humphrey (2 hits, RBI), Nick Wolski (2 hits, 3B, RBI), Kory Olsen (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Michael Swiatly (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI). Keeton Ryza picked up the win on the mound in relief.
Frankfort West 4, CL South 3: Despite their luck earlier in the day against Murphysboro, the Gators (5-1) scored 2 runs in the seventh but came up a run short in their first defeat of the spring. Keeton Ryza (RBI) and Brent Chubb each had 2 hits for CL South while Noah Tyrell smacked a double. Brad Quinlan and Kyle Lang tallied 1 hit and 1 RBI each and starting pitcher Jason DeCicco suffered the loss on the mound in 3 innings of work.
St. Francis de Sales 13, Burlington Central 3 (6 inn.): The Stallions pounded out 13 runs on 15 hits and used a 5-run fifth to put things out of reach for the Rockets (2-5) at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. Craig Schuring (1-for-2, 2 RBI) homered and John Murphy went 2-for-3 at the plate for Central while Clay Milas suffered the loss on the mound.
