Sheriff in Evansville says office needs new command post
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The Vanderburgh County sheriff says his office has run out of room at its Evansville command post and hopes to build a new one.
Sheriff Dave Wedding says the department is moving forward with plans to build the new operations center. He says it will provide more room for deputies and investigators and save the county money. The sheriff's office rents its current space for $104,000 a year.
The Evansville Courier and Press reports (http://bit.ly/25wZOKq) the new operations center would be built on the front lawn of the Vanderburgh County jail.
The Evansville Vanderburgh County Building Authority would take out the construction loan. Building Authority director Dave Rector estimates the project will cost about $1.6 million.
The Vanderburgh County Council would have to approve the deal during its April 6 meeting.
