New owners celebrate drive-in's 66th birthday on Route 66

LITCHFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Litchfield Sky View Drive-in Theater will celebrate its 66th birthday on Route 66 under new owners. And the dancing hot dog still performs.

Owners Mindy and Nick Pastrovich will open the drive-in for the season Friday. The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/1Y0FTh8 ) it is the oldest continually operating drive-in movie theater on U.S. 66, one of the nation's earlier interstate highways and celebrated in literature and song.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "10 Cloverfield Lane" are on the opening twin bill and will sandwich the popular, animated intermission clip featuring an acrobatic frankfurter that flips into a bun.

The 37-year-old Pastroviches bought the theater with Nick Pastrovich's parents, Mike and Debbie Pastrovich.

Opened in 1950 by Frisina Enterprises, the Pastroviches are only the fourth owners.
