Aurora man charged with fleeing police in Sugar Grove
An Aurora man is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police after a crash Tuesday morning in Sugar Grove.
Diego Jimenez, 19, of the 300 block of Michigan Avenue, was arrested around 4 a.m., according to Sugar Grove police.
A police officer on patrol found Jimenez and a juvenile girl in a car parked in a lot at Mallard Park around 3:30 a.m. The officer asked for identification, and reported smelling cannabis. According to police, Jimenez denied he had cannabis, refused to let the officer search the car, and refused to put the car in park and turn it off when instructed. Instead, he drove off.
The officer followed, spotting the car near Mallard Lane and Rolling Oaks Road and following it to Route 47, where it hit the back of a semitrailer, then spun on to the parkway.
Jimenez was also charged with possession of cannabis, resisting a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor, according to court records.
