Breakfast of Champions Food Drive at Palatine Park District

In an effort to make a difference right here in the Palatine community, the Palatine Park District Service Committee's next project is a Breakfast of Champions Food Drive. The food drive will be conducted from April 1 through April 15 and collected items will be delivered to the Palatine Township Food Pantry by members of the Service Committee. Donations can be dropped off at the registration/reception areas of Community Center, Birchwood Recreation Center, Falcon Park Recreation Center, and Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center.

While all donations of non-perishable items are welcome, the committee has decided to concentrate on a Breakfast of Champions theme to help the community start the day in a healthy way. Non-perishable items needed at this time by the Palatine Township Food Pantry include: Cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, strawberry jelly, coffee, tea, juice, muffin mix, baking mix, pancake mix, syrup, and granola bars. The Breakfast of Champions Food Drive has been offered several times, resulting in the collection of 585 pounds of food in 2013 and 653 pounds of food in 2015.

Palatine Park District staff who are volunteering their time as members of the Service Committee include Donelda Danz, Jean Farrar, Trish Feid, Debbie Keenan, Dan Mangum, Amanda McGovern, Michael Noens, Karen Rude, Lisa Schroeder and Joan Scovic. Many other Palatine Park District staff members have also volunteered to help with committee projects and events.

For information about the Breakfast of Champions Food Drive, contact Joan Scovic, food drive coordinator, at (847) 496-6287 or jscovic@palatineparks.org.

Palatine Park District has several staff committees to facilitate special projects and events. The PPD Service Committee was formed three years ago with the mission of providing a variety of service opportunities to both staff members and the community throughout the year. A few of the committee's projects include assisting with environmental clean-up events, hosting drives for food, pets, Easter baskets, holiday gifts, and books, creating valentines for veterans for National Day of Service, and serving at Feed My Starving Children.

The mission of Palatine Park District is to provide a variety of safe, enjoyable and affordable parks, programs and recreational facilities that will enhance the quality of life by promoting good health and well-being for all residents and visitors while being fiscally responsible stewards of community assets and tax dollars.
