One person killed in crash near North Aurora
An Aurora man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning near Mooseheart Child City and School, officials said.
About 10:15 a.m., a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling north on Route 31 crossed into the southbound lane near Mooseheart Road for unknown reasons, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff's office. The vehicle collided head on with a Ford pickup truck.
The driver of the Trailblazer, identified as 21-year-old Jose Quitl, was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff's officials said.
Maple Park resident Brandon Haller, 24, who was driving the pickup truck, was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva for nonlife threatening injuries, authorities said.
There were no other passengers in either vehicle.
Sheriff's detectives and investigators from the county's Accident Reconstruction Team are still investigating the crash. They have not determined if drugs, alcohol, texting or excessive speed were involved, officials said.
No Mooseheart employees were involved in the accident, and students are off for spring break, according to Moose International Director General Scott Hart.
Route 31 was shut down after the crash at Mooseheart Road and reopened about 1:15 p.m., said Lt. Pat Gengler, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
