Belgian cyclist dies after heart attack
AJACCIO, Corsica (AP) - Belgian cyclist Daan Myngheer has died in hospital after suffering a heart attack over the weekend at the Criterium International race in Corsica.
Myngheer's Roubaix-Lille Metropole team said in a statement that the 22-year-old rider passed away on Monday night.
Myngheer suffered a heart attack during Saturday's first stage of the race and was airlifted to Ajaccio hospital where he was placed in an artificial coma.
Another Belgian cyclist, Antoine Demoitie, died on Sunday following a crash in the Gent-Wevelgem race.
