Baseball: Batavia downs Benet; Jacobs wins 2

Alex Kielion and Luke Golson scattered 5 hits and Luke Beckman drove in 2 runs to lead the Batavia baseball team to a 4-1 nonconference win over Benet Academy on Monday.

Jared Martin went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs (2-0) and Ben Lynam added a double.

Kielion picked up the win, going 4 innings and allowing 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks. Golson earned the save, throwing 3 innings and allowing just 1 hit with 4 strikeouts.

Jacobs wins 2: In downstate Marion, the Golden Eagles (5-1) defeated Plainfield North 3-0 and Granite City 14-1. Brad Demkovich earned the complete-game win against Plainfield North, allowing just 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks. Mike Addante (2-for-3, RB), Stevie Krueger (3B, RBI) an Adam Kale (2B) led the offense. In the five-inning win over Granite City, Addante (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Krueger (2 hits, RBI), Tim Randl (2 hits, RBI), Casey Dennison (2 hits, 3B, 3 RBI) and Loen Nelson (2 hits) powered the Jacobs offense. Justin Lavrisa went 4 innings allowing 4 hits to earn the win on the mound.

Larkin splits: Zach Edgar drove in 2 runs while Andy Bonnot (3 hits, 2B, 4 RBI) and Kordell Thomas (2 hits, 3B, RBI) also had big games to lead the Royals to a 10-4 win over Marengo in Game 1. Edgar also picked up the pitching win in relief of Seth Morford. The Royals (2-2) fell 12-7 in 10 innings in Game 2. Edgar had 4 hist including a double for Larkin, while Michael Rodriguez and Cy Kerber added 2 hits each.

Palatine 7, South Elgin 2: Kevin Barry had 3 hits including 2 doubles and an RBI and Joe Roberson added 2 hits for South Elgin in this nonconference loss. Mitch Butvilas added a double and an RBI for the Storm (1-2). Jack Stancl suffered the loss on the mound.

Dundee-Crown 16, Streamwood 1: Eric Hedmark went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Chargers (3-1) to a nonconference win. Nick Musielewicz and Taylor Schmidt added 2 hits each for D-C and Matt Weichmann had a double and 2 RBI. Jim Welzein got the win on the mound with relief help from Carlson Balcer. Keagan Cordone had 2 hits for Streamwood (1-1).

Oswego 11, West Aurora 0: Jake Arsenault had 2 hits for West Aurora, which slipped to 0-3 with this nonconference loss.

Metea Valley 14, Bartlett 1: The Hawks committed 5 errors in losing this nonconference game. Cameron Mays had 2 hits for Bartlett (2-2) and Shane Donovan added a double.

Waubonsie Valley 1, St. Charles East 0: Niko Kiebosits allowed just 3 hits in 6⅓ innings but the Saints could manage only 4 singles in this nonconference loss.

East Aurora 12, ACC 2: Jake Smith had 2 hits for Aurora Central (4-1) in nonconference action.

Hampshire 9, Belvidere 2: Noah Scrader drove in 2 runs while Tyler Maglaya and Michael Kruse each had doubles to lead the Whip-Purs (4-3) to a nonconference win. Byran Diete picked up the win in relief.

Prospect 1, Huntley 0: Jeff Heinrich had 2 hits including a double for Huntley (3-3) in this nonconference game. Kyle Morgan was the losing pitcher.

Conant 6, Geneva 1: Six Geneva pitchers held Conant to 2 hits but 7 walks did in the Vikings in this nonconference loss. Dylan Baer had 2 hits including a double for Geneva.

Normal West 5, Cary-Grove 4: Tyler Pennington had 3 hits and an RBI for Cary-Grove in this loss at Normal West. Nick Kirk and Tom Neilson (RBI) each doubled for the Trojans (2-3). Michael Eleftheriou took the loss in relief.

Harlem 5, Elgin 4: RJ Bartlett and Cameron Jackson each had 2 hits including a double and an RBI each for Elgin (0-5) in nonconference play. Eddy Ramos added 2 hits for the Maroons, who were hurt by 4 errors.
