Baseball: Dale's single in 9th lifts St. Charles East to win

Jim Dale's single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored John Dellostritto with the game's only run as the St. Charles East baseball team defeated Lyons Township 1-0 Saturday in nonconference action at East.

Matt Bredigan started on the mound for the Saints (2-1) and went 4 innings, allowing 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. Steve Podany allowed just 1 hit over the final 5 innings to earn the win.

Schaumburg 4, Bartlett 2: Cameron Mays had 2 hits and an RBI and Austin Hilvert drove in a run for Bartlett (2-1) in this nonconference loss. Kyle Kucharski added a double for the Hawks. Shane Donovan threw a complete game in absorbing the loss on the mound.

Winnebago 2, Hampshire 0: Noah Schrader and Jacob Manning had Hampshire's only hits in this loss in downstate Jacksonville. Christian Puente was the losing pitcher for the Whip-Purs (3-3), who committed 3 errors that led to both runs being unearned.

South Elgin 6, Rolling Meadows 2: Dylan Wells allowed just 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks over 5 innings as the Storm (1-1) won in nonconference action. Leading the South Elgin offense were Mitch Butvilas (2 hits, 2B), Adam Walker (2 RBI), Joe Roberson (2B, 2 RBI), Kyle Alvarado (2 doubles) and Nate Gomez (2B, 2 RBI).

Huntley 9, Hoffman Estates 2: Nick Laxner, Adam Smylie and Trevor Nemes combined on a 3-hitter with Laxner picking up the win. Leading the Red Raiders (3-2) offensively were Tyler Koss (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Joe Rizzo (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Danny Smith (2 hits, RBI) and Charlie Nugent (2 hits, 2B).

Plainfield South 2, West Aurora 1: The Blackhawks (0-2) made 2 errors that led to 2 unearned runs in this nonconference loss. Logan Love and JJ Rivers had doubles for West Aurora and Connor Palmby drove in its only run. Trevor Hannan took the loss on the mound.

Dundee-Crown 10, Glenbrook South 0: Danny Denz and Erik Hedmark combined on a 2-hitter to lead the Chargers (2-1) to a nonconference win. Denz struck out seven in 4 innings. He also drove in 2 runs. Other contributors to the D-C offense were Carson Balcer (2B, 2 RBI), Sean Jay (2 doubles, RBI), Patrick Harvey (2B, RBI), Matt Weichmann (2B, RBI) and Nick Musielewicz (2 hits).

ACC 2, St. Joe-Ogden 1: The Chargers (4-0) remained undefeated behind a 3-hitter from Jake Smith, who struck out 11 and walked 2. Sean Sinisko had a 2-run single in the fourth inning to account for Aurora Central's runs.

Geneva 13, Whitney Young 0: Matt Simpson hit 2 home runs and had 5 RBI to lead the Vikings (1-1) to a nonconference win. Vincent MacDonald (3-for-3), Alez Hostman and Dylan Baer each had doubles for Geneva. Bryan Callaly allowed just 1 hit with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in 4 innings to earn the win.
