Oasis Fest gears up for big weekend in Grayslake
The second annual Oasis Fest is gearing up with an action-packed weekend April 8-10. Each day will have a special event that emphasizes the many services The Oasis offers.
Friday, April 8, will feature a Nintendo "Smash Bros." Tournament from 5-7 p.m. Contestants will face off against each other for prizes and total "Smash Bros." dominance. This event is co-sponsored by Gamers HQ. Registration is $5 and can be done at The Oasis during normal business hours. The tournament is for ages 12 and older.
Saturday, April 9, will feature The Oasis Fest Concert from 4-10 p.m. Saturday night is the music night at The Oasis every week, and this show is their biggest of the year. The cost to attend is a $5 donation at the door. Bands include The Native Woods, The Escapers, Andre and the Giants, Stellar and more. A full list of acts is available on The Oasis website. This night is sponsored by Something's Brewing. The concert is for ages 12 and older.
Sunday, April 10, will feature Pub Trivia from 2-5 p.m. Teams of up to 5 will contend in a battle of wits for bragging rights and trivia superiority. This is a private event for ages 21 and older and will feature beer from Light the Lamp Brewery and food from BBQ Productions. Registration is $100 per team and can be completed online at oasisgrayslake.com/trivia. Team spaces are limited, so sign up today.
All proceeds from the weekend will be used to purchase music performance licenses. With these licenses, young musicians are allowed to play covers of their favorite songs. This ability to play cover songs on The Oasis' stage is an investment in the growth of Lake County's young musicians, where there is a deficit in youth-oriented facilities providing these licenses.
Established in 2008, The Grayslake Oasis Youth Center is a safe place where youth from Grayslake and the surrounding communities can spend time and make new friends. It offers a variety of entertainment, including video games, a snack bar, and pool/air hockey tables.
Additionally, The Oasis supports local musicians by hosting concerts every Saturday night featuring local, regional, and national talent.
The Oasis is an independent organization that is determined to benefit the lives of all who come through its door. Community members can contribute to The Oasis' mission to positively impact the community by sponsoring and/or attending these events. Sponsors will receive advertising in return for their support.
