Police think 1 man responsible for dollar-store robberies

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Springfield police believe one man is behind the past month's string of dollar-store robberies in the city.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register (http://bit.ly/1RgjD2j ) reports police have sent information about six similar robberies to law enforcement agencies across the state in hopes of getting a lead.

Dan Mounce is deputy police chief. He says he hopes someone who knows the suspect will finger him. Several surveillance photos of the man have been made public.

The incidents began Feb. 23 when a man displayed a handgun and ran with cash from a Dollar General store. The most recent was Sunday morning at a Family Dollar store.

Sheriff's police are uncertain whether a Casey's General Store robbery early Sunday is related.

Mounce would not discuss the details of the police investigation.
