Drivers cited during stepped-up enforcement in Elk Grove

Elk Grove Village police made one arrest for driving under the influence and two arrests for driving on a suspended driver's license during a six-day stepped-up enforcement period that ended Sunday.

There were also 11 charges issued for drug-related violations, five uninsured motorists, five drivers cited for improper use of cellphones, and 259 seat belt violations, according to a news release.

The added enforcement took place during the St. Patrick's Day holiday period, March 15 through March 20, in several areas, including a roadside safety check on Arlington Heights Road near the Jane Addams Tollway. The department received a federal grant to pay for the program.
