SRACLC offers Active Adult program
Submitted by the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County
The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County provides recreation-based programming for individuals with special needs and disabilities. SRACLC serves the park districts of Grayslake, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills and the villages of Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, and Lincolnshire.
SRACLC's adult day program, Active Adult, has been providing structured recreational fun for adults with special needs since 2007. The day program is held Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Libertyville Sports Complex. Transportation is provided from Vernon Hills and Hawthorn Woods.
Daily field-trips and community integrations are an important aspect of Active Adult. In February, the group visited Al's Pizza Italia, 277 Evergreen Drive in Vernon Hills. There they had a tour of the facility, learned how to make pizza dough, taught proper kitchen techniques, and even made individual pizzas.
The Active Adult participants increase communication and social skills with daily speech activities, followed by a current events discussion, and time to become tech-savvy on the computer.
Each day there is time set aside for a workout in the fitness center and sports activities. The group also focuses on building independent living skills such as cooking, money management, and social etiquette.
The current Spring 2016 brochure is available online at www.sraclc.org. For more information on any of SRACLC's programs, part-time employment, or to tour Active Adult, call (847) 816-4866.
