Softball: St. Charles East opens with win over Schaumburg
St. Charles East 6, Schaumburg 3: Madelyn Candre (2-for-3, 2B), Katie Kolb (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Delaney Devor (2-for-3, 2 RBI) led the Saints' offense as they won their season opener, also new head coach Jarod Gutesha's first win. Jordan Hall picked up the win in the circle, allowing 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. She was also 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI at the plate.
Hampshire 15, Wheaton Academy 3: The Whip-Purs continued to score runs in bunches as they moved to 3-0 on the season. Leading the Whips at the plate were Jasmine Lopez (2-for-3), Aly Snider (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) and Ellie Lapi (3-for-3, 3B). Lopez picked up the win in the circle, allowing just 3 hits.
Cary-Grove 8, Lake Zurich 7: The Trojans (1-3) picked up their first win of the season, pounding out 10 doubles in their 15 hits. Brianne Prank had 3 doubles and 2 RBI while Alyssa Gurgone had 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Also recording two-baggers were Alea Charlier, Nicolette Richardi, winning pitcher Kristina Weber, Anna Whitaker (RBI) and Rachel Stanley (RBI).
CL South 9, Larkin 3: Taylor Kassel (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) and Carly Chovanec each hit home runs to lead the Gators (2-0) to a nonconference win, Brookelynn Maddox (RBI) added a triple for Crystal Lake South and Brittany Baker had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Freshman Christina Toniolo allowed just 2 hits with 6 strikeouts to earn the win for the Gators. Sophie Young had 2 RBI for the Royals (0-4) and Hannah Gross was the losing pitcher.
Kirkland Hiawatha 10, Westminster Christian 6: Rachel Schmitt had 2 doubles and Grace Schmitt added one as well for Westminster Christian in its season-opening loss. Kaylee Johnson drove in 2 runs for the Warriors. Taryn Boltz suffered the pitching loss.
Belvidere 3, Dundee-Crown 0: Kayla Sjodin had 2 hits for the Chargers in their season-opening nonconference loss. Sydney Ruggles was the losing pitcher despite 7 strikeouts.
Yorkville 13, Rosary 8: Xandria Olsen had 4 hits including a double and a triple and 2 RBI to lead Rosary (2-2) in nonconference action. Emma Molenhouse was the Royals' losing pitcher.
