Bayern Munich leads AP Global Football 10 poll after 2 wins
LONDON (AP) - Bayern Munich took the top spot in the Associated Press Global Football 10 poll after two victories in a week.
Bayern overcame Juventus to reach the Champions League quarterfinals and then beat Cologne 1-0 in the Bundesliga.
"Bayern Munich eventually booked their place in the Champions League quarterfinals after seeing off Juventus in extra time," Jonathan Johnson of beiN Sports USA in France said.
"Pep Guardiola's weary side then eked out a 1-0 win away at Cologne to remain five points clear of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga."
Real Madrid is second in Tuesday's poll after beating Sevilla 4-0, while Juventus is third after recovering from the loss to Bayern to win 4-1 at Torino in Serie A.
Leicester took fourth place after a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace kept it five points clear in the English Premier League.
Dortmund is fifth after eliminating Tottenham from the Europa League with a 5-1 aggregate triumph before overcoming Augsburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga.
Barcelona, Manchester United, Napoli, Southampton and Tottenham complete the top 10 teams of the week.
Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is player of the week after scoring twice to lead his team to a 3-1 comeback victory over Genoa.
"Gonzalo Higuain continued his fine season, inspiring Napoli to a comeback 3-1 win over Genoa," Marco Monteverde of News Corp. Australia said. "If Napoli are to end Juventus' reign as Serie A champions, it will be largely thanks to Higuain."
Harry Kane is second for scoring two goals in Tottenham's 3-0 win over Bournemouth, while Sadio Mane of Southampton is third for his two goals in the 3-2 win over Liverpool.
"Sadio Mane came off the bench and scored two big goals for Southampton in their win over Liverpool," Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in the United States said.
Bayern's Thomas Mueller is fourth for getting the injury-time goal which took his side's Champions League game with Juventus into extra time - and a subsequent victory on penalties.
Neymar of Barcelona took fifth place with two goals in two games for Barcelona.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Luis Suarez, Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi round out the top 10 players of the week.
