Indiana man gets 9 years in bloody attack on ex-girlfriend
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana man who pleaded guilty to brutally attacking his ex-girlfriend, leaving her bloodied and begging neighbors for help, has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Twenty-four-year-old Justin Charles Culverhouse was sentenced Monday in Delaware Circuit Court after pleading guilty to aggravated battery in the September 2014 attack.
The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/22zvVGQ ) that the victim, bleeding from head wounds, fled Culverhouse's apartment to another building where she screamed for help. Officers found a blood-covered meat cleaver in Culverhouse's apartment, along with an aluminum baseball bat.
The victim told officers that Culverhouse had repeatedly struck her in the head with a blunt object and twice choked her to near unconsciousness.
Police said Culverhouse used a butcher knife also found at the scene to cut his wrist.
