Side Street Studio Arts opens call for 2016 Battle of the Bands

Side Street Studio Arts, in conjunction with the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission, Fat Cat Custom Guitars & Repair and Rediscover Records, are excited to announce the open call for the 2016 Battle of the Bands.

The third annual summerlong event will be a celebration of local and regional musicians. Side Street is currently looking for 16 bands to fill the bracketed competition. The battles will begin Friday, May 27, at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in Elgin. It will culminate with the final battle between two bands on Friday, Aug. 12.

The winner will receive more than $3,000 in prizes from Fat Cat Custom Guitars & Repair, Rediscover Records, and Side Street Studio Arts.

Applications are due by Tuesday, March 29.

Side Street Studio Arts was founded in 2013 by Melvin and Erin Rehberg as an outlet for the artists of Elgin. Currently under the direction of Amanda Harris, Melvin, and Rehberg, its mission is to provide an accessible space, run by artists, encouraging all aspects of the artistic process from creation to curation.
