Parade to kick off Flag Day anniversary

The Overseas Batavia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1197 and its Auxiliary have teamed up with the city of Batavia to kick off the Flag Day Centennial Anniversary on Sunday, May 1.

The Loyalty Day Parade will be the first of several celebrations of 100 years of Flag Day. Bernard Cigrand, a Batavia resident, was the founder of Flag Day.

This year's Loyalty Day Parade theme is "Flag Day Centennial Anniversary."

Applications for anyone who would like to participate in the parade are available online at BataviaVFW.org. Then click on Loyalty Day 2016 and "Discover More." The application can be printed out or completed online. Email the application form to loyaltyday1197@sbcglobal.net.

The application deadline is Sunday, April 24. If you have questions, call the Batavia VFW at (630) 879-9630.

The Loyalty Day Parade is funded through donations, volunteers, and a $50 entry fee for commercial businesses and adult organizations. The entry fee should be submitted with the application. Volunteers and donations are always needed and appreciated. Call the VFW for more information.
