Yankees fields named for Martin, Jeter, Ruth, Gehrig

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The New York Yankees have named the four fields at the team's minor league complex in Florida to honor Billy Martin, Derek Jeter, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

The fields reflect the number worn by the Yankees' legends:

-1. Billy Martin Field.

-2. Derek Jeter Field.

-3. Babe Ruth Field.

-4. Lou Gehrig Field.

The Yankees have retired the uniform numbers of Martin, Ruth and Gehrig, with Jeter expected to join the list.

The facility hosts Yankees' minor leaguers during spring training. The extended spring training program and rookie-level Gulf Coast League teams use the complex during the regular season.

Signs for each field were installed during an improvement project this year that includes new indoor batting cages and an expansion of the office-clubhouse building.
