New dad Gonzalez celebrates, pitches Nationals over Astros

VIERA, Fla. (AP) - Gio Gonzalez, pitching for the first time since his fiancee gave birth to their first child, gave up one run over 4 1/3 innings as the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros 5-3 Monday.

The couple's child was born last week on St. Patrick's Day. Gonzalez allowed five hits, walked four and threw a wild pitch but was able to get himself out of trouble.

Wilson Ramos homered and Ryan Zimmerman added a two-run double for Washington. Since undergoing Lasik eye surgery earlier this spring, Ramos is now 6 for 18 (.333) with two home runs.

Houston starter Scott Feldman worked on his changeup throughout his 3 2/3 inning stint and gave up three runs on five hits.

Colin Moran hit a two-run homer off Washington reliever Rafael Martin.
