Deerfield rallies for victory at Elk Grove

Visiting Deerfield produced a 6-run fifth inning in claiming an 8-3 victory over Elk Grove on Monday in nonconference play.

Sam Fradin doubled twice and drove in 3 runs for the Warriors, and Ryan Pfutzenreuter tossed 5 innings and was supported by two scoreless innings by a pair of relievers.

Chuck Fleming had a pair of hits and stole a base for Elk Grove (1-2), which couldn't overcome 3 errors, 4 walks and 3 hit-by-pitches.

St. Viator 9, Timberline (Idaho) 5: Shaun Falbo homered twice, finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs score as the Lions won at Thunderbird High School in Arizona.

Dan Sullivan also had a 2-homer performance, and Cole Kmet hit 1.

Kevin Napoleon picked up the victory for the Lions (2-1), allowing 4 runs over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts, 2 walks and 6 hits.

Barrington 22, Canterbury 1 (5 inn.): The Broncos rolled in their season opener in Cocoa, Fla., scoring 14 runs over the first 3 innings.

Zach Balogh tripled and drove in 3 runs, Tristan Michaels had 3 hits and scored 4 runs and Jimmy Day, Patrick Dehnert and Blake Swanson each had 2 hits and drove in a pair.

Jake Zyzda went 5 innings, allowing only an unearned run in the first inning along with 3 hits and no walks.

Crystal Lake Central 4, Palatine 3: The visiting Tigers scored twice in both the second and third innings and never trailed while picking up a nonconference win.

Ryan Anderson pitched 5 scoreless relief innings for the Pirates, allowing 4 hits and striking out four.

Matt Lamm had a pair of hits for Palatine (2-3), and Brendan Walker doubled and drove in 2 runs.

Grayslake Central 3, Buffalo Grove 2: Sophomore pitcher Jack Vaselaney didn't allow an earned run over 6 innings, but the Bison (0-3) managed only 3 hits in dropping a nonconference contest to the Rams in Orlando, Fla.
