Motion: Chicago refuses to release video of custody death

CHICAGO (AP) - The family of a 24-year-old who died in Chicago police custody last year says the city refuses to release video of the incident despite Mayor Rahm Emanuel's pledge to begin releasing video of disputed deaths within 60 to 90 days.

An attorney for the family of Heriberto Godinez filed a motion Monday in Cook County Circuit Court asking a judge to order its release. The city law department didn't have an immediate comment.

Emanuel announced the new video policy in February amid anger over a year delay in releasing video showing a white police officer fatally shooting black teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times.

Monday's motion alleges video shows an officer pressing on Godinez's neck. A medical examiner found the direct cause of Godinez's death to be "combined cocaine and alcohol toxicity."
