Elgin teen again charged with gun possession

A 19-year-old felon was arrested and charged Monday after a traffic stop in Elgin in which a handgun was found in his back seat, according to police.

Bryant J. Mancilla, of the 1200 block of South Lyle Lane, Elgin, is due in bond call Tuesday morning on felony charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/possession of a firearm by a felon, according to police and Kane County court records.

He was on probation for a similar offense in Elgin in September 2015, records show.

According to Elgin police, Mancilla was a back seat passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over at about 2:42 a.m. Monday for a traffic violation on the 400 block of South McLean Boulevard. Officers noticed Mancilla trying to conceal some type of object, which turned out to be a loaded gun, and he was arrested, police said.

Mancilla faces anywhere from probation to seven years in prison on the most recent offense.

According to court records, Mancilla received two years of probation and was ordered to pay $2,395 in fines and court costs in January after he pleaded guilty to carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card. The charged stemmed from a September 2015 case in Elgin. Mancilla can be resentenced to anywhere from more probation to five years in prison for the 2015 offense.
