Sapong scores 2 early goals, Union beat 10-man Revs 3-0

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - C.J. Sapong had two first-half goals on Sunday and the Philadelphia Union won their home opener 3-0 over the 10-man New England Revolution.

Sapong finished left-footed shots on Fabinho's cross in the 18th minute and Warren Creavalle's in the 33rd. Sebastien Le Toux capped the scoring in the 93rd minute.

The Union (2-1-0) won their second straight and tied the Montreal Impact for the early lead in the Eastern Conference standings.

New England (0-1-2) played with 10 men after Je-Vaughn Watson was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Roland Alberg in the 36th minute.

Lee Nguyen's free kick in the 35th minute hit both posts before rebounding out for the Revs.

Goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth saved two penalty kicks for the Revolution. New England had won its last three visits to Talen Energy Stadium.
