Dollar store robbery Sunday in Springfield 5th in a month

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A man who implied he had a gun robbed a dollar store in Springfield Sunday - the fifth discount store robbed in a month.

Springfield police told the (Springfield) State Journal-Register (http://bit.ly/1MvU7AP) the man walked into a Family Dollar Store at 9:53 a.m. and demanded money. He suggested he was armed although the clerk did not see a gun. The man took an undisclosed amount of money and escaped on foot.

Police say they are investigating the likelihood that the robber is the same one who has robbed four other dollar stores in recent weeks.

In the last two incidents, no weapon was displayed.

The first incident was Feb. 23. On that date and on Feb. 25, a robber entered separate Dollar General stores and displayed weapons.
