Sporting routs Arouca to claim overnight lead in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Sporting Lisbon thrashed Arouca 5-1 to provisionally regain the lead of the Portuguese league from Benfica on Saturday.

Teofilo Gutierrez opened the scoring in the 15th minute and added a second goal right before halftime. By then, Joao Mario had increased Sporting's lead with two more first-half goals.

Bryan Ruiz added the hosts' final goal before Gege got Arouca's consolation.

Sporting rose one point ahead of Benfica before the defending champion visits Boavista on Sunday.

Third-place FC Porto stayed in touch at four points behind Sporting with a 1-0 win at Setubal thanks to Sergio Oliveira's goal just before halftime.
