The St. Charles Public Library, in partnership with the St. Charles Park District, hosted the local Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee for Illinois adults, age 50 and older, on Friday, March 18, at the St. Charles Public Library.

This year's first place winner was John Wohlert, with Brian Sullivan taking second place.

After 60 rounds, the winning word was "rigmarole." Both will advance to the Regional Bee for a chance to compete at the state level held in August at the Illinois State Fair.

This state-wide event provides Illinois adults, age 50 or older, the opportunity to showcase a lifetime of knowledge and to celebrate years of experience through their spelling activities that allow continual learning and keep the brain active.
