Learn about Easter eggs in Des Plaines
The Des Plaines History Center will discuss Easter Egg Traditions from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at 781 Pearson St. and give children a chance to paint their own eggs.
Marina Orzhynska, who teaches Saturday school at Holy Virgin Protection Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Des Plaines, will present the program designed for children ages 5-12 with an adult.
Orzhynska said she is thrilled to be invited back after doing a similar program last year. "We believe that the egg is a symbol of new life," she said
The event offers the History Center an opportunity to connect with the local Russian community.
"We are pleased to have Marina return for a second year to demonstrate and teach this interesting and colorful egg decorating tradition," said Shari Caine, the center's executive director. "It's a chance for families with young children to enjoy an afternoon together and create something beautiful to take home."
Teaching comes naturally to Orzhynska. She enjoys spending time with children. "Ever since I was 5, I dreamed about teaching. Since I was in preschool, I told everyone that I would be a teacher."
The fee is $3 per child for nonmembers, $2 for members. For information, go to www.desplaineshistory.org or call (847) 391-5399.
