Blatter lodges appeal against football ban with sports court
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport says former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has filed an appeal to annul his six-year ban from soccer.
Blatter was banned last year after being found guilty of unethical conduct relating to a 2 million Swiss franc ($2 million) payment by FIFA in 2011 to UEFA President Michel Platini.
An eight-year ban was imposed by FIFA's ethics judge in December, but FIFA's appeal committee reduced it to six years last month.
Platini is also serving a six-year ban and lodged his appeal to CAS last month. CAS is hoping to deliver its verdict in May, a month before the European Championship in France, Platini's home country.

FIFA provisionally banned President Sepp Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini for 90 days. While acknowledging for the first time that votes were bought in past World Cup hosting contests, FIFA is seeking to claim "tens of millions of dollars" in bribe money seized by U.S. federal prosecutors. FIFA submitted a 22-page claim to the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York on Tuesday March 15, 2016 that seeks a big share in restitution from more than $190 million already forfeited by soccer and marketing officials who pleaded guilty in the sprawling corruption case.
