Man gets 45-year prison sentence for stabbing co-worker
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A 44-year-old man convicted of fatally stabbing a co-worker and dumping his body along a highway in Lafayette in 2014 has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.
William Paz also was found guilty in February on a charge of obstruction of justice. Authorities said he killed 26-year-old Primitivo Flores, a co-worker at a restaurant.
The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/1VgHXTi) that Tippecanoe Superior Judge Randy Williams handed down the minimum sentence Thursday, explaining the punishment will adversely affect Paz's family in Central America, who were receiving $700 monthly from his job in Lafayette. Paz is from El Salvador.
During the four-day jury trial, Paz's defense attorneys argued that Paz's roommate was to blame.
