Bartlett Library patrons explore math in program
Second and third graders explored geometry and other mathematical concepts with hands-on activities at the Bartlett Library on March 17.
In the program, children were able to do a handful of activities in order to better understand mathematics. They were able to glue different cut outs of shapes onto paper to make their own geometry scene, recreate images by utilizing foam shapes and make images on wooden boards out of small wooden shapes.
After each of them made their own individual geometry scenes, the children were broken up into three different groups in order to work together to make images out of the foam shapes. This helped the children to understand the importance of team work.
It was after the foam shapes that the wooden shapes were brought forward.
Bartlett patron Anahi Aceredo exclaimed, "This is fun," as she was placing the wooden shapes on her board.
Some of the images that the children recreated were a dog, bunny, fish, butterfly and train.
At the end of the program, the children were given handouts to take home so they could cut out different shapes and make more images even when they weren't at the program.
If anyone missed the program, and would like to use the wooden shapes and boards, they are available for use within the Bartlett Library. They are located at the Youth & Teen Services Desk.
The next Youth program at the Bartlett Library is Read to Rover on Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m. Reserve a unique "one-on-one" 10 minute appointment to read to a certified therapy dog. Space is limited. Registration required in person or by phone.
