Muncie man gets 25 years for fatal stabbing in Daleville
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A 48-year-old Muncie man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a fatal stabbing last year in Daleville.
Judge Thomas Cannon Jr. on Tuesday sentenced Juan Hernandez in last year's killing of 55-year-old Mark Hittson. The judge gave him three years on a battery conviction stemming from hand cuts suffered by Hittson's wife as she tried to defend her husband.
The sentences will be served at the same time. A jury convicted Hernandez in February of voluntary manslaughter and battery with a deadly weapon.
The (Muncie) Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1XuVTHW) the judge commented on Hernandez' tattoos, calling them a "ghastly prophecy." One shows a large dagger, the other a sword piercing a heart. The judge also noted Hernandez' criminal record, which included a pair of criminal recklessness convictions.
