Authorities: Man said he killed 19 kids in prank call to sheriff's office
A Waukegan man is held on $50,000 bail after phoning a Lake County sheriff's dispatcher and claiming he "just killed 19 of your elementary school students," authorities said.
Robert J. Simmons, 61, of the 3000 block of Belvidere Road, has been charged with one count of disorderly conduct for making the prank phone call at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, Det. Christopher Covelli said.
Covelli said detectives investigating the case arrested Simmons in his home without incident. Officials said no children were injured.
Simmons admitted to the making the call when questioned by police, Covelli said. Simmons did not give a reason for making the call, or say which school was involved, Covelli said.
Simmons must post 10 percent of the bail to be released from jail. His next court date is March 21.
