Watches valued at $50,000 stolen in Des Plaines burglary
Watches valued at $50,000 were stolen last week in a break-in of a Des Plaines home, police reported Monday.
According to police, officers responding March 7 to an alarm at a home in the 100 block of East River Road found the front east side door of the residence open and interior lights off.
After a safety check of the home, officers discovered that someone had forced entry to a master bedroom and rifled through dresser drawers, taken the bed mattress from its frame and removed a sitting chair cushion.
Officers also found an empty black watch winder box on the floor. It was reported that four wrist watches valued at $50,000 were missing from the box.
The lock and handle on a door to an office also was bent and damaged, police said.
