Man who killed estranged girlfriend sentenced for weapons

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana man serving a 70-year prison sentence for fatally shooting his estranged girlfriend in front of their teenage son has been sentenced on federal weapons charges stemming from her killing.

Jason S. Perry, 34, was sentenced Monday by a federal judge in Evansville to two 30-year sentences for his guilty plea to unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

The Princeton man will serve those sentences concurrently with the sentence he received after pleading guilty to Jesica Tice's May 2013 killing, the Princeton Daily Clarion reported (http://bit.ly/1TL805D ).

The federal charges allege that Perry unlawfully possessed a 12-gauge shotgun when he shot the 34-year-old Tice because he had prior felony convictions for theft, battery and burglary.

Deputy U.S. Attorney Barry Glickman said Tice's family and friends attended Monday's sentencing hearing.

Authorities said Perry shot Tice twice at close range as she and her 13-year-old son, Logan, were leaving a Princeton restaurant where they had joined relatives in celebrating his eighth-grade graduation. Police said Perry had been ordered off the restaurant premises by officers but he returned with a shotgun, and shotgun shells he had just purchased.

Perry had also attended Princeton Community Middle School's 8th grade graduation in the city about 25 miles north of Evansville. Tice and her mother told school officials there was a protective order against Perry that should prevent him from attending. But officials could find no such order and Perry was allowed in.
