Hammond schools suspend 2 over soccer team sexual assault
HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - The Hammond schools superintendent says two Clark High School students have been suspended and others also could be after a boys soccer player told police was sexually assaulted by teammates as part of an initiation.
Superintendent Walter Watkins told The (Munster) Times (http://bit.ly/1R0sDoF ) he believes the alleged victim is a freshman. He says the Hammond schools have turned the matter over to police and have contacted Child Protective Services. He says he also has sent a letter to Clark parents "letting them know we were investigating an allegation of hazing."
The Juvenile Division of the Lake County Prosecutor's office says it has begun the process of formally charging the suspects.
The student told police as many as eight teammates participated in the Feb. 5 assault in a locker room.
